All 10 of mine are chipped and we chipped all the rescue's we did. Our's just has an identification number on the chip and when animal control or a vet scan's the dog it will tell them what system and the number. Animal control and vets have numbers to call to find the owner. They also provide a tag so if someone found your dog they could call and report the description of the dog and location.
It is especially good if someone steals your dog and it shows proof of ownership. We tagged our rescue's so if they ended up back into animal control we would be called.
