The last time I did Hot Rod's, the attachment to the hair dryer fell on the floor just as I was cutting and he moved so I cut too far down on the nail and there was a yelp and blood everywhere. He wouldn't let me put the stypic powder on and I was getting more bloody by the moment. Thank goodness I finally got enough on and the bleeding finally stopped. and wouldn't you know it, after that is when hubby walked in the door from work! Needless to say I am scared to do their nails now. |
Thank You Bo...your softee collar is a life saver! Momo has some bacterial infection going on (same paw) & he was obsessively licking it on & off for awhile. I was so caught up on his dewclaw that it totally slipped my mind. Our vet prescribed some spray & an anti-inflammatory shot on his paw pad. It was raw & swollen
, I feel like such a bad mommy. He also felt bad bc he didn't notice it when we went in for the dewclaw, so he didn't charge us for the exam. Now it's healing up real well & getting scabby. I don't know what I would've done w/out the softee collar! I had to wash it last night & temporarily put the plastic one & he was so unhappy. Didn't even move, wanted me to carry him around, whimpering. As soon as it came out of the dryer, I put the softee on him & he was happy. He can see where he's going & he doesn't bump into things & he can sleep w/it on.
I have a hell of a time trimming the boys' nails too. I have to wrap them up in a towel & maybe trim 1 or 2 nails & give them a break bc they act like I'm going to kill them lol. That's why I've been putting it off, but no more! I'll have to be extra careful not to cut their quick, or I'll have to start all over.
kjc & TatumsMom, Thanks for the tip about flour & cornstarch. Seems like both would work & not sting.
