I work at PETsMART (all one word, pronounced Pet smart) I have worked there for two years, and must agree with y'all. I don't trust any petshop that will sell dogs or kittens!!
That's why I love PETsMART, they encourage adoption and have we have compaigns like "Just a Buck Change their Luck" where you can donate as low as a dollor and up to $20. That happens in the fall and the spring. Also, every saturday(at my store at least) we have a Rescue or no Kill shelter come in an adopt out thier dogs. We just donate them the space to do their own thing. We also have an adoption area for cats, The cat adoption process seems a little more strict then the dogs. I say this because They have you fill out a paper telling them about thier living conditions and what not. I'm not too sure if they do this for the dogs. Each store has different Rescues come to their store and each one is different.
This is the second PETsMART That I've worked at (I transferred when I moved) and the other one I worked at was in Las Vegas. Their cat adoptions were through "Heaven Can Wait" and they had a contract that you had to sign that stated that the cats must be indoor cats and you CAN NOT declaw the cats, also if you had to get rid of the cat for any reason you must bring it back to them.
sometimes Petco and PETsMART will have the same rescues go to their stores (not at the same time of course.)
Also concerning to the smell of petshops and stores It simply means that they don't clean up as well as they should.
The only reason I don't care for Petco is because I went in there once and No associate ever said a word to me and I was in there for a good 20 or so minutes also, I spotted one fish tank with Ich and I spotted at least three or more dead fish and a crawdad eating a dead carcause. Yummy...
But if Petsmart does not have something that someone is looking for I will tell them to look online or go to Petco Like pinkies or snakes and spiders. |
