Ivermectin may not be wonderful, but it works for many things. Heartworms for one. I have thankfully never lost a pup who went through heartworm treatment and have no problems with Heartgard.
As for any type of treatment....certainly explore all options with the vet and do your own research as well! It is always wise to be an educated consumer.
I cannot imagine they would suggest an anti fungal shampoo for this pup...this is not a fungal issue!
