Well for me there is another reason for needing to use a crate.. My puppy was sold to me and 2 days later was diagnosed with coccidia. She loves her poop like it's going out of style and she hates pinapple and two of the poop tabs I have tried. So unless I want her to re-infect herself constantly, I don't have much choice at this point.

One thing that helped with Frisco, since he wanted sooooooo baaaaadly to be with us, was that I associated using his pad in his pen with 'OPEN THE DOOR', accompanied by serious happy celebrating and rambunctious playtime. No pee, no open door. Took a LOT of attention time, because you have to spend all the hours you can around the pen in order to keep the pup company when it's awake, and IMMEDIATELY open the door and go have fun on any semblance of a successful pee, but worth it I think, because he can pee on command if he has any now, and he's a part of the family and not apart from it, which works for everybody. I'm in favor of losing the crate. |
