It depends on you. A lot of people like to spay prior to the first heat to minimalize the chances of mammary cancer while some like to wait until longer to give the dogs growth plates to grow and close. Majority of pets are spayed in the 6-9 month range. And there there are many folks who choose to wait until their pets weigh at least 4+ lbs before spaying, neutering.

Hot Rod was slightly under 3 lbs as was Maggie May and they both did fine. We had full bloodwork done on both for their procedures so we wouldn't have any surprises. Good luck on your decision. I would speak with your vet and decide on what is right for your little one.
