Another idea I have seen at recent baby showers is send a note with the invitation requesting a book instead of a card. Most people put cards up and never look at them again, you can get a book for about the same price. (As a teacher, I love this idea
)
One shower used bunny washcloths decorations and as favors. They looked something like this:
