Have him in the crate with the door closed, but you stay in the room with him at first. Don't talk to him. Read or do something where you're not paying attention to him, and only open the door when he stops barking. The next step would be leaving the room for short amount of time, but only return after he stops barking. It takes a while, but it worked with Sydney. She will bark at first, but then quiets down after five minutes.
