Id try to open the door to his crate too, try an expen or gate him in your kitchen.. he is older now and probally can hold it through the night, if not use a belly band. Try expanding his space with either a baby gate or an expen. put his toys , bed , crate food and water in there.. If he wakes up he should be able to use pee pads if he needs to go to the bathroom or play with toys to keep himself occupied. give it a shot see if it works!!
