Today, he woke up around 445 AM barking. I figured, poor guy, took him across the street to the park for 10 minutes, he didnt do anything so I took him back to his crate, told him very good and tried to go back to sleep.

He started to whine and bark again, which the neighbours don't seem to appreciate (nor do I, I wanted to go back to sleep). I went back in his room, let him out, picked him up and held his mouth shut (which I was told teached dominance and he has been quiet for about 15 minutes now).

My question is, why was he whining/barking? And what can I do to teach him against this beyond what I am doing?
Thanks!

Hi I'm just curious as to why your yorkie is in a cage ? My yorkie and many others allow their we ones to sleep with them .with stairs or something that they can get up and down .I have a pee pad down at night . Possibly he has started barking because he is cold ? or maybe lonely ? just an idea
