Baby Teeth Ok, so I'm new to yorkie motherhood. I have done quite a bit of reading about yorkies. Since my girls are 13 months (Goldie), and 10 months old (Gracie), I'm trying to get informed on everything they need to have done. I've only had them a few weeks and we made our first trip to the vet last week. Gracie had been vomiting a little that morning, but I figured she probably just had an upset stomach.
I get them both checked by the vet to find out that they have never lost their baby teeth. Apparently this is common in yorkies from what the vet says. But having the baby teeth along with the adult teeth had caused bacteria to get trapped and gave them a gum infection and then tonsillitus. So we did 7 days antibiotics and then they had their baby teeth removed yesterday and their teeth cleaned. They have both been shaking quite a bit today, so I called the vet to see if this is normal. She said it is most likely because they are having some pain and we should put them on some anti-inflammatory meds for that. (I have no clue why they didn't do that anyway.)
My girls have been together since Gracie was born. They sleep together, eat out of the same bowl and play nicely together. But since I brought them home from the vet, Goldie has been snapping at Gracie. It's not the normal playing, she really gets riled at times. We actually have had to seperate them for a while to get her to calm down. Gracie hasn't really wanted to play or anything, so this behavior is unprovoked.
Can anyone offer some advice or reasoning behind this? I don't know if it might be because she's in pain or just nerves from the vet experience. She seems fine with us, just not her sister. |
