Genie,
I'm so sorry about the news you were given. I was given similar news about 6 months ago regarding Miko. My vet said that it was probably a shunt inside the liver and that it couldn't be repaired. He also didn't think it was a good idea to continue doing such extensive tests on him. Don't be disheartened by this though, it's been 6 months since Miko had the exploratory surgery looking for a shunt that they didn't find, and he's doing so well! You would never know he is sick at all because he doesn't have any symptoms at all except for the stones and crystals in his urine which the vet already found a solution for. He is as hyper, energetic, and happy as ever! My vet told me that Miko should live a normal life with the special low protein diet, the liver supplement, and the lactulose. You should ask your vet about the liver supplement...it's called denosyl and I've found it to help Miko soooooo much! I really recommend it. You may not be able to see the results, but his liver sure will! Also, ask the vet if lactulose might be something you need to give cookie. I know it's so hard to be positive at a time like this, but it is very possible for your cookie to have a normal life. Keep your chin up She's going to be okay!
