Maybe they found he has Legg Perthes? That is what it sounds like and the surgery for that is FHO (femoral head ostomy) where they remove the ball from the femur that goes into the hip socket. Yes, I have had pups recover well from that surgery. I had one who had both hips done at one time...it was amazing how quickly he bounced back!
