my maltese was lifting her right paw before christmas we rested it for 48 hrs and she was doing better - i called hospital and vet and they said if broken bone in paw nothing they can do but splint it

My girl yorkie hurt her back right leg jumping off doggie stairs - ran her in within 2 days had xray and no broken bones thought possible acl injury and i spoke to several orthopedics and vets and said with small dogs rest for 2 mos keep confined and after two months she was totally normal they said many times small dogs do not need surgery as the scar tissue acts like an acl

They could give you some pain meds like nsaids but i prefer tramadol the prob is pain is sometimes your best ally making them rest if you give meds they think they are better and running around and further injuring themselves.

If it was broke they would definitely not touch it down at all as a break is very painful they will show more signs of pain than lifting leg. If fracture or sprain they will touch down on ground at times

Having gone through this a couple times i would rest the dog if not showing any other signs other than lifting and in 72 hrs take in if not better - they can sprain their legs just like we can -
