I've just been leaving a bowl of kibble out for Ruger all day. When it's empty I fill it and he just eats off and on all day, often taking the bits out of the bowl and eating them in another spot of the room. The bowl is small, and I've never seen him gulp down a lot of food at a time. I give him Nutro Healty Choice, Small Bites Puppy.
He is now about 5 months old and weighs 6 lbs. I don't expect him to get much bigger, but the vet says he will fill out a bit and he's very healthy. Right now he certainly doesn't have a weight problem.
Everything I read on the Net says not to leave a bowl of kibble out all the time, so I'm asking how much to feed and how often. The breeder's instructions were to leave a bowl of kibble out at all times which is why I've been doing that.
It would be nice to get him on a schedule, but with the harsh winters here he is pad trained and goes inside, except when I take him for walks and he usually pees and poops then, too.
I've never had a dog before so I don't really have a clue.
