I give it year round - but it's warm here all year. Some people take the winter off in colder areas - some don't because it makes it more difficult to remember bc of the starting/stopping. As long as it's been cold, as I understand it - most vets would not ask for a heartworm test - but always a good idea to get a confirmation from your vet or tech
