Default Whitish gums

I noticed Callie wasn't acting like she felt real well and I checked her gums and they where whitish, I went to press on them and check the capillary refill time but they didnt really change this has happened before a few times and I have given her something with a little fast acting sugar in it. Well I have diabetes and so I know general foods to use if my sugar is low and having seen apple slices on a list that is an ok snack for dogs I grabbed apple sauce and gave her a little and she seems to be acting a little better. I'm really not sure what this means she is almost 3 years old and I thought only little tiny puppies had low blood sugar and Callie is 16 pounds. Can anyone help me out here and give me any ideas about what could have caused this? Thanks is advance.
