Allergies or something else???? I have posted many times on her about Miracle and I am still trying to piece together as to whether or not my baby truly has allergies. I am read the responses and have done quite a bit of research on allergies and dogs but am still not 100% convinced she has allergies.
I rehomed Miracle on June 30th of this year. a week later she gave birth to two babies. One we lost at 6 weeks the little boy we still have have and is now six months old. At about the time I started to wean the puppies first week of August. I also changed Miracles food from Ceaser's to blue Buffalo shortly after she started scratching her eyes. the previous owners said this happens everytime she starts to wean them. I took her to the vet and go the medicine they have given her before for this and it cleared up. However after this she her self started scratching. I was told she had allergies. Again, I spoke with her previous owners and they said this had never happen before but she is allergic to dust mites and windex. They had never had her allergy tested. She also barked at everybody with the exception of me. we thought this was because of her babies. She is still barking at everybody except me and at every noise she hears, even if we don't.
Anyway to continue, I have had Miracle allergy tested for food via RASH testing which I have not found out is inconclusive, the ONLY real thing she is allergic too is Potato with a score of 73. However, she had been on steroids in the past few weeks so this could be a false positive. Again, I checked with the previous owners they did say they use to to give her McDonald french fries. Any I have tried everything I know, she is currently taking 1/2 a zyrtec a day which did seem to work a little but does not seem to do anything now. She had taken predisone which only worked for a little while. I use hypoallergenic shampoo on her, wash everything in hypoallergic laundry soap, no dyes or perfumes because I can't have them either. I wash in hot water to get rid of dust mites as best as possible.
I have tried the elimination diet and was feed her turkey as suggested, this caused her to get contipated. we finally got that cleared up and I was feeding her just chicken and sweet potato and she seemed to be getting worse and then her skin started to dry out and become scally. I was then told to put her back on Duck and potato from natural balance, when I did that she got really bad. I know have her on Wellness Venison and Sweet Potato. she has been on this for 3 weeks now along with a pump of Omega #3- the one you get from the vet. She was getting 1/2 pump but this has done nothing to her skin. the vet told me I could increase to 1 pomp per day, it has been over a week and nothing. Also over the past few weeks she started with this gagging sound. I checked the vidoes that post her and it really just sounds like she is gagging on a hair ball. There is no difference between day and night. it has been months since her bordetella shot. and she smelled, I took her to the vet he said she had a staph infection and trachea bronchitis. He prescribed her Delta Albaplex which seemed to work, she still gags some but mostly after she is itching and licking herself.
She does not have dirreahea (sp?) nor is she vomiting. She has also maintained her pregnancy weight of 7.8lbs. Her previous owners said she weighted 4lbs, which I think is to small since she is slightly bigger than her baby he weighs almost 6 lbs and looks perfect.
Now starting yesterday morning she is no longer eating like she used to, I honestly don't know if it has to do with the fish oil stuff I am putting in and she doesn't like it or not. She eats just doesn't finish the whole bowl which she usually does.
I have an appointment for her to see the dermatologist in Feb. but like I said I am not 100% convinced allergies are causing it. I know that I am human and not a furbaby but when I take my meds it helps with inside allergies so wouldn't the zrytec work if that was the case? Also, I have had my carpets professional cleaned with hypoallergenic detergent and that did not help either.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I am thinking about getting her tyroid checked to see if that maybe the problem. I just don't want to put her through more than she needs to go through, nor do i want them to overlooks something that can be brewing. |
