I got her as a birthday gift in August/08, she was 3 months old. I am experienced with potty training dogs, I know I am not a pro but I was always able to potty train my dogs. I had many boxers, very stubborn, but before 1 year they were totally trained. We live in Florida, so extreme weather is not a problem. I also have cats, and my french door to the backyard is open pretty much all day. I close it at night, though, because the cats love to hunt and bring mice. So I have been training Pix forever, doing what I always did with other dogs, and she doesn't seem to get it. She can spend one whole week without an accident, then she will pee and poop anywhere in the house for the next week.
What I do : when I see poop or pee in the wrong place, I pick her up, show it to her, speak strongly and use short words such a NO ! BAD !, and take her outside saying OUT!
When I see she finished a meal, I take her out , and nothing ever happens. Seems she saves all potty to when I am not looking. She doesn't have a favorite place in the house. It can be any rug, any room, even hallways, kitchen, even right by the OPEN door where she would have to take 3 more steps and go. We have a boxer who is 7 and goes out everytime, and waits until I open the door in the morning. PLease advise ! She already ruined a good 8X10 rug and I am constantly fighting odors in the house. Very, very frustrated.
