The two bands on the bow are for placement only. You need to make a topknot first, then just pop the bow on top. Some people only use one band for placement and keep the other one as a back up in case it breaks.

This is the best and EASIEST explanation on how to do it. I never thought I could do it, and when Ladymom posted this I tried it the next day and it's easier than you think. I never knew it was THREE bands, THEN the bow.
