Definitely use the swop to get him to drop the toy, but I would also recommend establishing some ground rules with the toys. He needs to know that you are the boss of the toys.
Does he do this with all his toys or only with one specific toy? I'd take away all the toys and only allow him to play with them at certain times, with you. So, you take out the toy when playtime starts and put it away again when you are finished.
What I do with mine is when they get their food, they have to sit before I put the bowls down. When I put them down, I say "Leave it". After a couple of seconds, I give them the release command (I use "Okay") and then they may eat. This teaches them to leave something alone until I say that it is okay. This has not only taught them to be patient, but it has saved my parrot's life.
Anyway, once he understands the concept, he will be more respectful about things.
