I researched this before getting Winston. He's my first dog. I read that boys are more affectionate than boys, but it might depend on the dog.
He doesn't mark & doesn't lift his leg - just never does it. We took a puppy training class & each class focused on a new command - sitting, lying down, come, stay. After the hour he knew what to do, we just reinforced the commands by practing at home. He's good with them if I do the hand motions. He's much better at following the commands when I have a treat in my hand. I just saw his wee wee for the first time the other day & it freaked me out - and he's neutered. We've only had him for 2 1/2 months and he's potty trained - will let us know when he needs to go out, reminds us when it's dinner time & if we're late & knows the commands. In general I think he's a very good puppy & smart.
