Your vet was probably talking about Capstar. It's a one time pill that will kill all the fleas on him for about 24 hours. It's usually used if a dog has an infestation in combination with a topical preventative.
Seeing a few fleas in the past few weeks probably means you do have a flea issue. Adult fleas actually spend very little time on the dog itself. They multiply so quickly, a few fleas can mean thousands in a very short time. Their eggs hatch in your carpet and in no time you can have an infestation.
Did your vet discuss starting him on a preventative? I prefer Advantage, but there are many options out there. A preventative will kill any adult fleas and also kill larvae and eggs as they hatch. Advantage or Frontline are applied monthly. |
