  I'm surprised you weren't notified.  However, most owners do have puppy teeth removed when a spay/nueter procedure is being performed.  Yorkies are noted for retaining puppy teeth.  It could be that your vet felt that the puppy teeth your pup had would not budge on their own.  Leaving them in place too long can cause a bite to go off.
