Many breed long into 10 and 12 yrs. I find the average stud dog slows around 7 to 8 yrs..he may still sire many nice litters, but he may not be as aggressive to breed. What used to take 5 mins, now turns into an hour to get a bitch bred..as a rule I retire my males between 6 to 8. It may be time to groom a new stud to repalce him..if you get a puppy your male will be close to 9 when the new male is producing well. Good Luck to you.
