My 5 month old yorkie did the exact same thing..My husband put a little chain outside..we take him out, put him on the chain and leave him out there until he starts barking, which means he is done and ready to come back in..This really works and you dont have to stand there the whole time waiting for them to go...Its cold out, so it will not take them long at all.. Take him/her out every hour to begin with, or after napping/eating. Consistency is the key..Award them when they have used the bathroom with treats..When u take them out, tell them-Time to go potty. or go outside..This really worked for us..Good luck
