I am not saying that the number of times you breed has anything to do with the number of pups and the size of pups. I have been told that when a female releases her eggs that they are all released at the same time and therefore all fertilized at the same time. Some people will argue with this. Personally I feel that placement in the womb and the size of the litter have a lot to do with it.
Your male will be very unhappy. I never crate mine but I either put them in a x-pen or in another room. They just have to get over it.
