A two-year study of vaccine reactions (from data gathered at 360 Banfield clinics in 2002 and 2003) concluded: “Young adult small-breed neutered dogs that received multiple vaccines per office visit were at greatest risk of a VAAE [Vaccine Associated Adverse Event] within 72 hours after vaccination.” The reaction rate increased significantly as body weight decreased. That is, small dogs were at greatest risk for a reaction. Risk for dogs weighing 11 pounds or less was 4 times greater than the risk for dogs weighing 99+ pounds. Medium-sized dogs also had increased risk over larger dogs. I have always been shocked that a Chihuahua puppy and an adult Great Dane are given the same dose shot: 1 mL. They get the same volume of virus or bacteria plus the same volume of adjuvants (boosting agents like aluminum), preservatives (like mercury), antibiotics, stabilizers and foreign tissue cultures (like fetal calf serum). All these ingredients are known to cause vaccine reactions.
Also these combo vaccines have components that are unnecessary, when multiple viruses and/or bacterias are administered all at once they will interfere with each other, resulting in neutralization or cancellation, therefore it will have a less than desirable result.
You may want to think about insisting this reaction be put in Missy's medical records it might be useful for an exemption in the future. Once a dog has a reaction the chances of another one is increased with other vaccines.....
Personally my own dogs are done with vaccines. After all of the research that I have done, too many respectable researchers have proven that boosters are useless and far more damaging.....
I hope Missy is feeling better soon..... |
Thank you for all of this info. I already had them put Missy's reaction to the vaccines in her records, but I do not have to worry about an exemption, as vaccines are not required by law where I live. I'm seriously DONE with them.
No more! I had questioned the Coronavirus in the vaccines before (at my old vet) and she felt it was important that Missy get it. Missy did NOT react to her puppy vaccines last year, and Dora hasn't for all of hers either.
It makes me wonder how necessary that 1 year booster really is. I don't think that I'm going to get any more vaccines for either of these girls. As I said earlier, their feet don't ever touch the public ground anyways. My only REAL fear was Parvo for them as puppies...my understanding is this virus is highly contagious and can be brought from the indoors on peoples shoes. I just hope my little girl is back to her usual self soon. If she isn't by 6pm, I am taking her into the vet before it closes. I don't care if she feels it's necessary to see her or not. I can't go through another night of wondering if she is going to be OK.
