I know what you mean about the vet being old school. The vet I use is very good and does deal with small dogs but I am still afraid.
She would do excellent on real food instead of dog food, which isn't food at all. Human grade vitamins are better for dogs than what's on the market for pets. Put her on real food and just buy NOW brand, Super Omega 3, 6, 9. Bit the end and squeeze out 5 drops once a day on a tiny, tiny bit of food that she will eat up right away. They need the fatty acids for skin and coat.
