To ask a terrier to *take* and hold something in their mouth without ripping it to shreads is a very un-natural thing for them to do- "Wha? You think I'm a retriever now?!"
I started Guinness in sit, then I put a dumbell in his mouth supporting his lower jaw while keeping his head leveled. When he got to the point where he held it in his mouth I had him take the dumbell from my hand, then from my hand three inches off the ground, then off the ground etc..
Do you play tug-a-war with Jackson? While he is tugging, say firmly *give* while holding the toy with both hands to each side of his mouth. The most important thing is to hold the toy still and firm without pulling or tugging. Keep repeating the command and he should release the toy.
Good luck and please keep posting new ideas. |
Wait, so he's NOT named after the beer? That's what I thought. I was gonna respond to you, "My next yorkie is gonna be named Newcastle" (that's my fave beer, yuuuuummmmmmmm)
Anyway, I may try the tissue trick, although we don't use tissues, we use TP for our noses

. BUT Uni can take a dollar bill from me and give it to my bf, or vice versa. We've been trying to get her to do it in the drive thru, but alas to no avail. One of the first pics we have of Uni is of her chewing on a dollar bill. Once she stole a "benjamin" but she gave it back.
