I am so sorry for your loss. I do know what you are going through. I don't know if they can sense "death", but they definately sense something. My husband died suddenly in November of 2008 at only 47 years old. He is the one who chose my Maddie from the litter and suprised me with her for my birthday... 8 months prior to his death. Maddie was boarded for 4 days while I was out of town at the hospital with my husband. From the time she came home after I got home, she never left my side. I live in a small community, so when something like this happens, you get a ton of people coming over, bringing food, sharing condolences, etc. During the 4 - 5 days of this prior to his memorial service, she never once barked at the doorbell, jumped off my lap to go greet someone, or any of the "normal" things she would have done. I also swear she is able to "see" my husband. Especially those first few nights at home. If you don't believe in these type things, you will find this weird, but the first few nights, I truely believe my husband was in the room with me. I felt, more than saw his presence. Maddie especially reacted to this and often alerted me to it before I felt it, especially when I was sleeping.

I found this so moving. Your Maddie sounds like a very special girl.
