I have had a few with broken pelvises. It really depends on the extent of the fracture and how many fractures there are.

Some can recover just fine with strict crate rest. Others do need surgery. Just to give you some idea....and I don't want to frighten you, but you need to know this. I had a call from a vet one day about a yorkie who had been dropped at a shelter in LA and he had chewed his paw completely off. I immediately sent my son there and we got him into the specialist in Houston the very next morning. In reviewing the entire case this is what had happened: He had been hit by a car and the owners could not afford the surgery. He had 4 fractures of his pelvis and it was luxated at the spine where the sciatic nerve passes. They took him home and crate rested him...no clue how these people did not see this pup chewing, but when we got him the entire paw was gone...just bones sticking out. I was horrified when I saw him. He did that because he was in pain. He ended up with his leg and part of his pelvis being amputated...the good news is he lives in TX now and is a very happy and loved little pupster!

SO.....it is very important that a good orthopedic vet take a look at this pup and the xrays!

I hope it is a simple thing and crate rest will repair it.
