Wow, that would be a brilliant idea... except if you went to meet a dog that was being sold by someone and a microchip number was detected once you scanned the dog... there would be no way of proving if the dog belonged to the owner without calling the microchip company that was registered with the chip. By then the dog owner might not allow you to buy or adopt his dog for fear he would get caught OR if he did proplery own the dog he would probably be rather insulted.

Best way to do this however would be to scan the dog when he is not looking and then write down the long number or memorize it. Yeah right! Those numbers are very long... I really don't see an easy way to check to see if the dog is stolen without a confrontation and some of these people who are trying to fence stolen dogs are scary!

Hmmmm... back to the drawing board. The whole idea is a good one in theory.

I do however think it would be great to have a scanner in the car for those times when I find strays running along the roadway.
