Marking and cocking their leg to potty are two separate things. He will probably never go back to squatting or only occasionally at best. Once they start marking it is difficult to break as it is instinctive for them to mark their terriority...neutering may or may not help.
All of my males mark... so does my female and all of them are altered....fortunately it is not inside my house.
You may want to invest in belly bands.
