When I got Fergie from the shelter, we knew she'd suffered some sort of injury. She had reduced use of her tail but she did not seem to be in any pain. She was ouchy on a hind leg when I got her (Nov. 20) but this quickly resolved. These days she runs around and can even jump on the bed (I just have mattress and box spring on the ground but it is still quite high for a little dog!). She never shows any sign of discomfort except that during/after defecating, she turns around and looks/nips at her butt sometimes.
I wanted to know the extent of any injuries, so when I had her spayed this week, I asked for a set of x-rays. She has a broken pelvis and a broken tail. They want to operate, remove the tail and repair (?) the pelvis. Not sure of details. I am going to get a 2nd opinion from a vet friend but after reading a lot online, it seems like simply restricting exercise (which has already been done between caging at the shelter and mostly being crated with me because I am at work all day and then she sleeps on the bed at night) is a more common treatment than surgery.
Has anyone else been through this? Your thoughts?
Oh, and she isn't a puppy - she's 2 and has already had puppies.
The good news is, her spay went off without a hitch!
