this was canine hives and can take time to kill the cycle - the cycle flares every 8 hrs as i have dealt with this twice with dd. The allergic reaction can come from antibiotics or an immediate reaction to something. Was there any change 12hrs prior to him getting hives? Most importantly the hour prior? it could be anything they ate, layed on, or a bite from spider. DD had it as we believe she licked dh neck with cologne on it and an hour later hives everywhere took 5-7 days to kill it. Second time she was on antibiotics for 17 days and 2hrs after last dose she broke out in hives all over. It is miserable and she cannot take benedryl as it amps her up making it worse. Taper back the benedryl and keep an eye on your pup as the cycle can last awhile if your dog has allergies. DD is 7lbs and i used 1/4 of the 25mg tablet for her as the doseage is 1mg per pound. Hives are a nightmare as i work and did not want to leave her so had to stay home for fear of throat swelling etc. This is why i am so nervous about ever giving her antibiotics which she has to take now for staph
