Agreed. Nail filing can cause the quick to recede back if you do it often enough. Does your pup have black nails? If so you need to take small bits off at a time and look at the bottom of nail. You should be able to see a black dot in the center of the white. The black dot is the quick coming up. Once you see that dot stop clipping.
