Hello all,

I've been trying to search through threads to find an answer, but not coming up with what I'm looking for.

I just scheduled my yorkie for her spay next Wednesday. Out of the blue, she began bleeding this morning and displaying all the classic heat signs (swelling, licking, etc). We are unsure of our pup's exact age as we got her second hand from someone moving and offered us no papers and have apparently missed the chance to spay before the first heat.

I understand it is preferable for the vet to perform the spay while the dog is not in heat, but how long do we have to wait to reschedule at this point? Is it ok to spay once the active bleeding stops, or do we wait until after the approximate 21 day "cycle" ends. I will be calling the vet tomorrow morning for their preference, but thought I would ask here as well.
