While I agree with a lot that the OP said in the 'rant' here are my thoughts:
Sometimes, yes, people could be nicer. But, I think the points people make on threads (such as, 'why do you have a 7 week old puppy' etc) are good for people who look at the thread later. Maybe a person is searching google for info about yorkie puppies and a YT thread pops up, and they read something that says you should't have a puppy before 12 weeks... They learn something they may not have learned otherwise. I can think of a hundred more examples.
Also, if posters have an open mind, then they can take criticism (albeit hard sometimes) and really learn from it. I was involved in a thread like that last week. Instead of letting it get to me, I took some excellent advice and learned a ton.
Lastly, I think the issue is this - people who know, or think they know what they are talking about want to correct or educate those who they believe do not know what they are talking about. And, no one likes to feel stupid, so, people start to get defensive... But, we all make mistakes, we all say stupid stuff, and when you post in a public forum, you get a public opinion.... Honestly, if I post a question I want real answers, real opinions, the good and the bad. If this forum was just about making ourselves and other people feel good or better about themselves, no one would learn anything. |
