I don't know if you have tried this, but I saw it on Victoria's show. One of the dogs ate too fast, like inhaling his food, causing the body to not digest the food well, so when it came out it still had an enticing food aroma to it, that's why he ate it. Maybe if you have the time to feed him slowly. I often do trick training with Uni during mealtime, so she gets a few kibbles at a time.
