Are you going to be using studio lights or are you going to be using all natural light? If natural then sometimes you will have low light situation where you will need to bump up the ISO pretty high....so read reviews on how the camera handles low light. And I would get one that has bunches of fps. Pets can be fast and you don't want you camera to have a hard time getting those frames out. You may need to just go to a camera store and hold some different brands. For me, I'm a canon girl but you may like another brand. Good luck
