I think you'll be ok. I started socializing Lexi when I got her at 4 months. Before I adopted her , she had been exposed to kids, cats and her brother. However I'm not sure how much socialization she had besides that.
Socialization is more than meeting other dogs. Until he gets his shots you can still socialize him with people, places and situations. For example riding in a car, or meeting a group of friends.
