A strong odor can indicate an ear infection, yeast growth, ear mites (black spots), or wax and dirt buildup.
If your vet wasn't concerned and if your baby isn't doing any head shaking or ear scratching, you can probably rule out infection and mites.
I would try swabbing the ear flap with a cotton pad and combing out the ear hair with a flea comb. If your baby is only 15 weeks, there probably isn't much ear hair. Don't stick anything in the ear canal. Most importantly, keep the inner ear dry when you bathe your baby.
Perhaps someone else can suggest a safe ear cleaner. I personally haven't tried any yet. |
