If it's possible you might want to treat your yard with tick/flea granules. I don't like using them but would rather use them, than to have ticks in my bed.
We've had flea problems on and off and I'm hesitant to use flea meds but have. From what I've heard most of the flea meds are not that effective, it's as though the fleas are getting immune.
I know Dawn dish washing detergent will kill fleas and might help with ticks.
Another possibility, if you live in the country is guinea hens, they supposedly eat ticks and will keep them out of your yard.
