I haven't taken online classes, so no help there.
Do you have any community education classes in your area? A lot of local communities have photog courses and they are cheap and hands on. Some are associated with local school districts, some are general community.
Also, don't know if you have National Camera Exchange in your area, but they offer classes (two free ones if you buy a camera there) at different levels. You can check out the info online at their web addy.
