I have 2 that are pad trained and 1 that is housebroken and goes outside to potty (I acquired him as an adult and he was already reliably housebroken). I find that my pad trained dogs pee a lot and sometimes I wonder if its because they never were trained to hold it. They will hold it when crated, for however long they need to, but when running free in the house they potty constantly.
The one I have that is housebroken goes outside 3 times a day and holds it until each trip We go at more or less the same time every day and if I miss that time, he will whine and let me know he has to go. I do not have many accidents with him. Sometimes he will ask for an extra potty trip but its rare. My only complaint with him is that sometimes he holds it too well. If its raining outside he will NOT go to potty. He also will not use the pads so it worries me on those days that he is holding his bladder for too long. |
