You can actually have the ALPHA Female as well. I've heard that the females can be even worse than the males
I think it really depends on the dog's personality. I have three females now and I knew when I was adding to my family that my first already had an ALPHA personality. Luckily things are working out well...provided that the alpha dog always gets attention first or she will growl at our latest additions for a few minutes.
