Sounds to me like you already think you know. It all depends on the dog. If they had trouble, or a real large litter that caused them to get run down, if they did not bounce back after whelping.

You need to read an learn more and get your own breeding program before you start questioning others.

In about 5 or 6 years then come back with your knowledge. meanwhile just observe.
