There are special grooming techniques for males where a few strands of hair are left longer so the pee can follow it and stay out of the main coat and much of the tummy hair is kept trimmed for hygeinic reasons as it doesn't change the overall look of a full coated dog. I didn't read the section on females bc at the time I didn't own any females!
