Is he under weight now ? If his weight is good don't worry about putting weight on him , you don't want him over weight for surgery as it is harder on them. He will most likely eat like a champ as soon as that bad tooth is out. Stick with soft food for a couple of days after, then he should be fine to eat his normal diet.
